Coupe de France – Lille’s adventure ends in the round of 16

On the occasion of the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, the Mastiffs were opposed to the rival Lensois. After being disconcertingly effective in the first half, they showed a very sad face in the second act. A decisive second half that offers a winning penalty shootout to the Lensois neighbors … (2-2, 4-3).

The first meeting of the year offers us a superb poster with a derby from the North between LOSC and RC Lens. Outside, the Mastiffs managed to be extremely sharp. Very domineering whether in terms of possession or the number of occasions, the Lensois were pierced from all sides during a breathless first act. Very lively, Lille have continued to undermine a local defense at bay, far too slow and quickly caught failing in its back. Gaping faults which the Mastiffs were able to take advantage of during their rare offensives. Aligned in the midfield, the duo Renato Sanches – Amadou Onana has continued to perforate the lensois block. Bursting with energy, the Belgian carried his training by scoring a nice double. First from the head, (29 ′), then from a point blank range lodged in the small net of Farinez, (33 ′). Two opportunistic achievements that allow the Mastiffs to have a good lead at the break, 2-0.

On returning from the locker room, the face of the meeting changes. Shy, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men retreat and do not project themselves with as much ardor as in the first act. A reluctance which offers a second wind to the Lensois. Masters of the game, they corner the Mastiffs who can repeatedly count on Ivo Grbic to get them out of delicate situations. But, yet solid in recent weeks, the Lille block broke up on a point blank attempt by Seko Fofana (67 ′). The tension rises as much as the pressure which builds up over the minutes. The Lensois put a strong intensity in the meeting and the Mastiffs are constantly in danger, on the tightrope. A rope that ends up giving way during the last seconds of the meeting. The inevitable Fofana responds to Onana and offers a penalty shootout to his supporters. A decisive session won by RC Lens to the detriment of our Mastiffs, abused during this exercise.
