The Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc: a life-size adventure

In 2021, you were registered for three trophies, this year you registered for the LGO in the Limited category, what are your objectives?

Aurélie Delattre: This is the first time that I have participated in the Limited category, there are many mushers with more experience than me in this edition. The dogs are in good shape and well trained, the competition is going to be very interesting and intense but I will fight to win!

Mushing is a sport where men and women are engaged in the same race for the same classification. Is it an advantage to be a woman?

AD: I don’t think it makes a real difference otherwise the classification would be separated as it is for the single dog.

“Every year, we change our training according to the competitions”

You train with Rémy Coste who will also be present on the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc in the Open category. What does pair training bring you?

AD: I have been living with Rémy for 5 years and we take care of our dogs together. We have a tourism company back home in Sweden to welcome nature enthusiasts who want to come dog sled, we live with our dogs all year round and we spend a lot of time with them.

Being two competitors is a real strength because we both think together. He brings his knowledge and skills to dog training. Me, I bring the knowledge of veterinarian with food, care, education and we discuss everything. We really complement each other and that’s what makes us strong.

Have you added something to your training sessions to be ready to take the start on January 8?

AD: Every year, we change our training according to the competitions. We wanted to improve the power of our dogs on the hill and their endurance.

What is your fondest memory on the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc?

AD: The landscapes are really sublime, I remember my first LGO after a long climb we had a view of a sunset over the mountains, it was sublime.
