The Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc: a life-size adventure

What prompted you to practice this sport, and why did you choose to run with Siberian huskies?

Grégory Coffre: It’s a family affair. I was born into it. For the choice of the breed, I chose the fastest breed among the Nordic which is the Siberian husky line competition. At the moment, I am running with the team of my wife who gave birth to our second son in the spring and who does not feel like doing this race which requires great physical conditions this year. My upcoming team will be Scandinavian hounds.

You have already participated in several editions, what is your best memory?

GC: Each edition is different. I don’t really have a better memory because each past edition is an adventure that we live with our dogs and as a family. If we come back every year, it’s because the Great Odyssey as a whole is a good memory for us.

“My real objective is to continue the educational work that we have put in place”

What does the “Best Nordic of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region” award mean to you?

GC: The Best Nordique award is a source of pride. I am happy to get this result with my dogs. On the other hand, for this title to be really more important to me, I would like more of us in Nordic to add competition to my team. This is the competitive spirit.

What are your objectives for this 18th edition of the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc?

GC: My objective this year is of course to remain first Nordic. Afterwards, I can’t compete against Scandinavian hounds so I don’t really have an objective on the general classification, which is why my future team will be made up of Scandinavian hounds, to get a Podium. But this year, I will say that my real objective is to continue the educational work that we have put in place.
