The Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc: a life-size adventure

Pierrick, you are going to participate for the first time in the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc, how do you feel?

Pierrick Métier: I am going to participate for the first time in the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc indeed, it is a real pleasure to embark on this adventure. The stress is indeed very present, however, I am really looking forward to it.

What made you want to participate in the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc in the Open category?

PM: My father did the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc in four editions, but injured his knee in the last one and had to give up. I took over from him at the heart of the race to finish the last two stages in his place two years ago. So I decided to do him honor by participating in the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc in Open with his dogs.

“My greatest pride would be to finish this race”

What are your goals for this 18th edition?

PM: My only goal for this edition is to finish the race. It would be a real honor for me and my father. It’s a beautiful and pretty tough race, so my greatest pride would be to finish it.

Do you have any fears or apprehensions in view of this extraordinary competition?

PM: I have been used to sledding in extreme conditions since I was 4 years old. I think I can handle extraordinary situations.

Which dogs will you run with? What are their race and their specificities?

PM: The dogs of the team are typical Nordic Alaskan huskies. They all come from Robert Sorlie, the Norwegian world champion.

Do you have an anecdote with one of your dogs to share with us?

PM: Raven, the lead dog, has already done the entire race last year with Aurélien Froidure. I will therefore bet everything on this dog to guide me through the many magnificent tracks of the race.
