At 82, Hugues Jurion sets out again for a solo adventure around the world –

He is tireless. The former army aviator, Hugues Jurion, is preparing to leave in a few months, for a new round-the-world trip, aboard his plane, which he built himself. About thirty stages await this aviation lover.

The pilot had already tried the adventure around the world, solo in 2014 then in 2017, but the latter was suddenly arrested following an accident. Even today, nothing frightens and seems to stop the Caledonian Hugues Jurion in his new challenge. Departure planned for mid-May.

At 82, the retiree never leaves his “little horse”, as he calls it; its two-seater aircraft equipped with 180 HP and built with passion a few years ago. The latter will soon take him on a new journey around the world. Hugues Jurion then flies several times a week, departing from Magenta aerodrome and has lost none of its panache of yesteryear.

When I built this plane, I had in mind: I want a plane that will allow me to redo everything that I have been able to do professionally but there, in a private capacity and I got there and that fills me.

His new journey includes around thirty stages. He will first set sail for Brisbane, Australia, which he should connect in 5 hours aboard his Van’s RV8A. Then will come Asia, Russia and the Arab countries, before a temporary stop in France.“I join friends, who have the same type of plane as me and we fly together to an event in the United States, famous all over the world: Oshkosh, a most extraordinary air show that has been around for a long time. I’ve been there once but now we’re all going together ” says Hugues Jurion.

And his English is still intact when it comes to doing his administrative procedures with London, to prepare for his departure.

With more than 19,000 hours of flight on the clock, this former aviator of the army and then of Aircalin does not know the word retirement. Hugues Jurion is a fulfilled adventurer that nothing seems to stop because after a lifetime of flying, the pilot will take off from Nouméa in mid-May. The beginning of a new story, which should last 4 to 5 months and which will allow him to record nearly 50,000 km more, in his precious and immortal logbook.
