5,000 kilometers to travel to reach the gates of the Moroccan desert. It’s the adventure of dreams Julie Leroy D’Oust Marest, in the Somme, and Ophelie Decott from Beauchamps, in the Somme.

The two sisters-in-law wish to participate in October 2022 in the Roses of the Sands Trophy.

This event organized by Desertours has the particularity of being both entirely feminine and supportive, for the benefit of associations.

This is an orienteering rally in stages, crossing three countries: France, Spain then Morocco, in 4×4, SSV, quads and motorbikes.

The creation of an association

It was in December 2021 that Julie and Ophélie decided to take part in this adventure. “We were in contact with Mallorie Helye, from Abbeville, who have already participated in 2021. We thought why not give it a try”.

The thirties have launched an association called Charlie’s.

“What we like is first of all the human adventure, but also its solidarity character. We are taking equipment for the association Les Enfants du Désert. The Trophy also supports the “Ruban Rose” association in its fight against breast cancer and the French Red Cross.

The feminine character of the Roses des Sables is also important to them. “This is an opportunity to prove that we, too, are capable of it.”

A large budget

The stress of the start is not there yet… but there is that of being able to raise the necessary budget to take part in the rally. The duo estimate it at €18,445. This includes registration as well as the rental of the 4X4, insurance, equipment, training. Two sponsors have already made themselves known, a printer located in Dieppe and Gamaches and a beauty salon in Mers-les-Bains.

“For everything related to mechanics training, we are also supported by a garage located near the Gros Jacques area”.

The association is therefore looking for patrons, for financial and material donations. You can contact her via the Les Charlie’s Facebook page or by email: lescharlies.rds@gmail.com.
