They know it will be in November 2022, in a distant and exotic country whose name they still do not know. This last detail does not undermine their determination: Nathalie Faure and Fanny Teyssier will participate in the Raid Amazones, a 100% female sporting event that combines running, cycling, canoeing and archery. Both are PE teachers in colleges in Arles – one at Mistral, the other at Van-Gogh – residents of the Arles Athlétisme club and regulars in the 10 kilometers of Arles. Their energy is contagious, and the name of their team has already been found: “Treiz’en forme”.
“It’s been a few years since we thought about participating in the Raid, says the sparkling duo. Of course, the sporting challenge attracts us, but we also want to give an educational scope to this adventure by involving our students. » Through this project, they hope to give them back a taste for physical effort, which they have seen wither over the health crisis. “The confinements sometimes demotivated them, some did not return to their sports clubs when training resumed, the use of screens worsened and we both noticed a drop in their capacities. »
Fanny and Nathalie’s idea is also to make middle school students work on the country they are about to discover, in conjunction with their history and geography teacher colleagues. The duo – whose motto is “Move, dream together” – also wants to take advantage of the media exposure of the Amazon Raid to highlight the association “Sourire à la vie”, which accompanies children suffering from cancer. “But to make all this possible, we must first raise the funds to finance their registration and the trip” they specify. Nine months before the start, the race for sponsors has therefore already begun.
