The Southern Alps candidates for the Olympic Games: A look back at the 2018 adventure and its lessons

A new Olympic adventure is beginning for the Southern Alps thanks to the Southern Region and the announcement of Renaud Muselier’s candidacy which generated a lot of enthusiasm, including Jean-Marc Passeron who launched an appeal on this theme on March 4, 2021 (HERE) then this autumn, seeing the Northern Alps engage again (HERE).

So we wanted to show you these images of the previous candidacy, that for the 2018 Games with this question: “And if we did the Winter Olympics in the mountains?”

From 2004 to 2009, hundreds and hundreds of people led voluntarily by Christine Rossi and Jean-Marc Passeron mobilized first with Gap (HERE) then Pelvoux and already with Marseille (see HERE).Among these people Joël Giraud, Guy Hermitte, Gérard Sémiond and so many others… A French primary will follow with Annecy, Nice and Grenoble, which Annecy will win before losing sharply to PyeongChang.

From this adventure, there remains the extraordinary memory of having dared, of having started to relax. There is also a “Forbidden Games” book (HERE Where HERE) and tons of documents accessible to the departmental archives of the Hautes-Alpes.

There are also images like this report from 2015.
