Direct mountain. STEF joins the Courchevel-Méribel 2023 adventure

Follow here, throughout the week, the news related to our mountains.

Specialist in the logistics and transport of food products, STEF is committed to Courchevel-Méribel 2023 and becomes an official partner of the 2023 world ski championships which will be held from February 6 to 19, 2023 in these resorts.

STEF, which has 19,000 employees and 250 sites located in 8 European countries, supplies shops, hotels and restaurants in the valleys and resorts every day, thus strengthening its commitment to the mountain area and its stakeholders. This partnership will give STEF and Courchevel-Méribel 2023 the opportunity to further strengthen the links that unite them with producers and manufacturers as well as all local economic players, whose know-how contributes to the influence of the French mountain.

A partnership that won’t wait until 2023 to be set up since STEF is getting involved this winter in the World Cup finals organized in Courchevel and Méribel from March 16 to 20, 2022. A first step before the 2023 world championships.

In any case, this merger satisfies Perrine Pelen, General Manager of Courchevel-Méribel 2023, who underlines in a press release that “STEF is an essential link in the logistics chain in our mountains. Beyond its international dimension, Courchevel Méribel 2023 is firmly rooted in its territory and has set itself the task of leading the network of companies that bring the resorts to life by embarking them on the adventure. This is the spirit of the partnership with STEF, which we will have great pleasure in activating and leading until February 2023.”

Ski resorts: should you still wear a mask in Savoie?

The waltz of decrees concerning sanitary measures making even the most informed dizzy, doubt has been able to creep in on the obligation to wear a mask in ski resorts. Article 2 of the prefectural decree of January 3 established, for the department of Savoie, the obligation to wear a mask in the “municipalities supporting ski resorts”, as in the municipalities of Chambéry, Aix -les-Bains and Albertville. However, in the last decree dated January 21, squeak! The mention has disappeared.

Does this mean that the mask is no longer compulsory in the resort? Not exactly, replies the prefecture: wearing a mask is certainly no longer compulsory in the streets of resorts, and more generally outdoors, since January 21, but it remains “compulsory in the lines of ski lifts when there is a significant concentration of people (and in particular more than 10 people) and it is compulsory at the level of the arrival stations and the departure stations of ski lifts when they are classified within the meaning of the regulations of the construction code and the living in an establishment open to the public”.

In Savoie, up to five Saturdays of traffic jams towards the Tarentaise

Skis in the trunk and patience in the bag. This is the paraphernalia necessary for holidaymakers who will take the road to the Tarentaise resorts for the next six Saturdays.

The traffic forecasts on the RN 90, towards the Tarentaise, from PC Osiris, classify red for the next five Saturdays. “Every weekend in January, the volume of traffic increases crescendo until the February holidays. Then, we observe that the month of March is still busy, surely due to the drop in station prices, ”analyzes Philippe Mansuy, head of PC Osiris.

This Saturday, the last before the start of the holidays, 29,000 vehicles were expected, then the 30,000 mark will be exceeded on the first day of the winter holidays on February 5. With an expected peak of 37,000 on February 12, the date on which zones B and A, Lyonnais and Marseille overlap.

Why more and more mountaineers are being rescued in the high mountains right now

The sun has been illuminating the Mont-Blanc massif for nearly three weeks. Deprived of fresh snow, many have traded their skis for a pair of ice axes. The dry conditions in the high mountains and the persistent cold push mountaineers towards the ice, and in particular the ascent of the chutes on the east face of Mont Blanc du Tacul.

“For two weeks, we have been intervening daily for mountaineers who are technically blocked in the sector”, observes André Vianney-Espinasse, the second in command of the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM), who wonders about these fashion effects. recurring.

To designate this type of rescue, rescuers use the term “technical blockage”. Skiers trapped by a glacier that is too open, mountaineers who are too slow caught up in the night… In all seasons, some people assume their strengths and their knowledge and call for help.

For the prevention and rescue company La Chamoniarde, these waves of rescue on certain renowned races are one of the “undesirable effects” of social networks…
