The adventure ends for Urgosse

The Coupe de France de pétanque, where 3,500 clubs register for each edition, is quietly rolling out its playoffs by geographical area after having done so at departmental level. The Gers, often well represented in this national competition, was present in this fourth round this season with only one Urgosse club. Pétanque d’Urgosse had qualified for the fourth round at the expense of Lévignac (31), Meilhan (40) and Rieux-Volvestre (31). The draw made by the FFPJP had awarded the Lourdes club (65). According to the reputation of the Lourdes-Sarsan club, the meeting proved difficult. Saturday afternoon, the Urgossiens presented the typical team on the Lourdes sand and Lourdes lined up its best assets. The first solo exercise announced the difficult task to the Gersois. Urgosse struggled to adapt to the difficult Lourdes terrain. Indeed, Lourdes took the best with the gain of four head-to-heads out of six. Only Laurent Dubau and Bernard Aguer won their game. Noëlle Escos had lost on an unfortunate headbutt and Arnaud Vaccaro could have reversed the score, it was very close. Lourdes led 8-4. It took a start to continue the adventure or hope to doubt the Pyreneans. The doubles games started badly with the Gers mixed doubles beaten soundly and unfortunately followed by the same fate by the two male doubles. The match ended without playing the triplets, the score being acquired by the Lourdais (17-4). The Urgossien Jean-Pierre Schneider analyzed the defeat: “We are disappointed because we did not play at our level. We had trouble adapting to the field, it’s a poor performance. It was a good adventure, our best match will remain the one against Rieux-Volvestre.” The last Gers representative falls with honors and makes an appointment for next season.
