The adventure ends there – Clermont Foot

In a match disputed in a difficult context at Lyon La Duchère, Sébastien Mazayrat’s team saw its way stop at the gates of the round of 16 of the Coupe Gambardella (1-1, 2 TAB to 4).

The Clermontois however opened the scoring quickly thanks to a magnificent strike from Aïman Maurer but the penalty conceded in the 33rd minute of play gave hope to the opponent.

The second half gave way to a more closed match, very choppy and without big chances on one side or the other.

The penalty shootout lottery let Soumaéla Traore’s teammates leave with their heads down…

The adventure in Gambardella therefore ends there for the U19 Clermontois, who had equaled the club record in this competition. The spirits are now turned towards the maintenance in the championship that will have to be sought at the end of the season.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Dimitri BRUNET – Mathisse DE AGUIAR, Mathis JOUVE, Axel GAS, Soumaéla TRAORE, Julien ASTIC, Malcolm ELHMIDI (77th Yanis LASRI), Frédéric LOKI (72nd Dylan Jouard), Ronan MATUVANGUA, Aïman MAURER, Axel MONNET (65th Amine BOUCHENNA).

Goals for the CF63: Aïman MAURER (11th).

REACTION FROM COACH SEBASTIEN MAZEYRAT:

“After a good start we opened the scoring with a nice shot from Aïman MAURER. The opponent quickly equalizes from the penalty spot. Despite a second half in numerical superiority, we do not manage to put the 2nd goal and the locals also have situations to score. The decision is therefore made on the penalty shootout where the opposing goalkeeper takes a penalty.

In a hostile context and against a team that played their luck to the fullest, we had trouble putting our game in place. The 2nd half-time stopped then chopped did not allow us to set the pace.

Good continuation to The Duchere and place in the championship for us.
