The adventure ends there… Humiliated 4-1 in Nice, OM are eliminated from the Coupe de France at the quarter-final stage. It is therefore not yet for this year that OM will bring the trophy back to Marseille. After having led 0-1 at the start of the match, OM gradually sank against the Aiglons, conceding four goals (double from kluivert, goals from Gouiri and Delort).
From the outset, OM put pressure on the people of Nice. Served by Guendouzi, Milik tried his luck but his blocked shot arrived on Ünder. The Turk benefited from the success and Bard opened the scoring against his side for OM (0-1, 3′). But Jorge Sampaoli’s players gradually left control of the game to the people of Nice. After performing a festival in the Olympian area, Gouiri quickly equalized (1-1, 10 ‘). And, just before the half-hour mark, it was Kluivert who first took advantage of an idiotic ball loss from Rongier in the middle to place a superb header on a cross from Delort, served on the right by the inevitable Gouiri (2-1, 29’).
Returning from the locker room, Jorge Sampaoli made a change at half-time with the exit of Balerdi and the entry into play of Bakambu. Number 13 of OM almost equalized on a cross shot from Payet but he was offside (48 ‘). And, just after, Kluivert scored a superb goal after a poor recovery from Caleta Car. The superb strike from the Nice winger was hit by Pau Lopez but lodged under the bar of the Spanish OM goalkeeper (3-1, 49’). Delort then took part in the evening Riviera festival, signing the Gym’s fourth goal from a cross by Kluivert. The ex-Montpelliérain placed an unstoppable recovery to deceive Pau Lopez (4-1, 61 ‘).
Too lax and overwhelmed defensively, OM could not resist the much more incisive Aiglons this evening. The Coupe de France is over for this season… Time for the championship on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.) with a trip to Metz.
