The next edition of What A Trip!, the international travel and adventure film festival of Montpellier will take place from September 21 to 25, 2022. Due to the work that will take place on the Charles de Gaulle esplanade on this date, the festival takes the opportunity to unfold in the city center and set up his village on the Place du Peyrou.
Films and exhibitions in the city center
In five years, What a Trip! has established itself as an essential cultural event in the Occitanie region by welcoming, in the heart of Montpellier, nearly 136,000 visitors. The 2022 edition will extend to heterogeneous places of entertainment placed under the sign of adventure and escape, from the Fabre Museum to the Place du Peyrou, located between the Arc de Triomphe and Les Arceaux, a place initially envisaged by the founder of the event, Romain Tarrusson.
With an average of 25 films screened at the Salle Rabelais and eight prizes awarded by a jury made up of key personalities from the world of travel and culture, the adventurers-protagonists take the public on board with them, for four days, through breathtaking images and adventures of different kinds (solidarity, sports, initiation, family, etc.). The festival also offers a “Carte Blanche Ushuaïa TV screening” of three films, several special screenings and an OFF festival, in partnership with the ABM association, which will take place at the Fabre museum. In addition, a cultural route will be offered through a dozen places in the city where the image, aesthetics and
transmission of emotions take on their full meaning.
The village at Le Peyrou
The Esplanade Charles de Gaulle, where the village has stood until now, being under construction as part of the renovation of the Place de la Comédie, What A Trip! takes you to Pe(y)rou and offers a new village to its public on an exceptional site in the heart of Montpellier.
Animations, advice on destinations around the world, Food trucks area, well-being area, agencies, insurers, equipment manufacturers, tourist offices, booksellers and craftsmen will be as many exhibitors present to inform all types of travellers. With nearly 40 conferences and workshops that will animate this “village of travel” throughout the duration of the festival, What A Trip! will also be a moment of discovery, learning and transmission.
At the end of each film screening, it will also be possible to meet the directors, adventurers and protagonists for a question and answer session. And when night falls on the “Village du voyage”, festival-goers will find themselves in front of the What A Trip stage! for a series of exceptional and free concerts.
